CCSD – Supporting Peace Amidst Syria's Ongoing Challenges

As Syria navigates a complex landscape marked by political shifts and ongoing security concerns, the Center for Civil Society and Democracy (CCSD) continues to play a pivotal role in fostering peace and empowering local communities. Founded in 2011 by Syrian civil society activists, CCSD is dedicated to building a stable and just society where human rights and fundamental freedoms prevail.

CCSD provides support to over fifty local grassroots organizations within Syria and neighboring countries. These partnerships are crucial in advancing development and humanitarian solutions aimed at achieving sustainable peace and justice in the region.

In collaboration with Change Makers, CCSD has implemented initiatives to enhance Syrian women's capacity to manage projects and contribute to community development. Women in refugee and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps often face severe isolation, deteriorating psychological conditions, and high unemployment rates due to repeated displacement and the devastating earthquake in February 2023.

To address these challenges, the project conducted focus group discussions and training sessions, equipping women with essential skills in project development and financial planning. These efforts aim to reduce vulnerability, promote economic self-sufficiency, and increase women's engagement in the labor market.

The situation in Syria remains complex. Ongoing military activities, such as recent Israeli airstrikes in southern Syria, contribute to the volatile security environment. Amid these challenges, CCSD's commitment to empowering local communities and supporting women's active participation in peacebuilding and economic development is more critical than ever.
